Astragalus drummondii Douglas ex Hook. is an herbaceous perennial plant species. It has thick, hairy stems and foliage covered in long hairs. Most individuals produce several large stems that branch out close to the ground, and reach 40 to 70 centimeters in height. Its leaves are pinnately compound and measure 6 to 14 centimeters long. This species is widely distributed across the western United States, as well as the Canadian provinces of Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia. Its overall range has not changed noticeably since the species was first formally identified. It is a hardy species capable of growing in a range of different climates. It grows well in both dry, light soils and moderately wet soils. While it is most abundant on grasslands, it can also survive in oak and pine forests. When present, it most often grows in concentrated groups on hillsides.
