About Arnica rydbergii Greene

Arnica rydbergii Greene is a North American flowering plant species in the Asteraceae family. It has three common names: Rydberg's arnica, subalpine arnica, and subalpine leopardbane. This species is native to western Canada (specifically Alberta and British Columbia) and the western United States (Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Utah, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, and South Dakota). It is an herb that grows up to 35 centimeters, or 14 inches, tall. Its yellow flower heads contain both ray florets and disc florets. It grows in alpine meadows and rocky slopes at high altitudes in mountainous regions. The species is named after Per Axel Rydberg, a Swedish-American botanist who lived from 1860 to 1931.
