Aralia racemosa L. has multiple common names: American spikenard, small spikenard, Indian root, spice berry, spignet, life-of-man, and petty morel. It is an ornamental plant in the Araliaceae family, native to the United States and Canada. This herbaceous plant reaches about 1 to 2 meters (3 feet 3 inches to 6 feet 7 inches) in height, and grows in shady areas. Most of the eastern United States falls within its native range.
