About Aquilegia jonesii Parry

Jones' columbine, Aquilegia jonesii Parry, is a dwarf columbine species that reaches just 12 centimeters in height. Its basal leaves are almost as long as the plant's stems, and it bears crowded leaflets. It produces erect blue or purple flowers that bloom between June and July. This species grows in rocky habitats within subalpine limestone regions. Its known range covers northern Wyoming, central and northwest Montana, and southern Alberta, where it occurs at altitudes between 1800 meters and 3400 meters. At least 20 populations of this species have been documented, 16 of which are located in Wyoming.
