About Antennaria media Greene

Antennaria media Greene is a North American species of flowering plant in the family Asteraceae, commonly known as Rocky Mountain pussytoes. It is native to western Canada and the Western United States, ranging from Alaska and Yukon Territory south to California and New Mexico. This species grows in cold Arctic and alpine environments, occurring either at high Arctic latitudes or at high elevations in mountain ranges including the Rocky Mountains, Cascades, and Sierra Nevada. Antennaria media is a perennial herb that grows in matted patches formed by its stolons and woolly basal leaves, with flowering inflorescences that reach no more than roughly 13 centimeters in height. Each inflorescence holds several flower heads. The species is dioecious, meaning male and female flowers grow on separate individual plants. Its fruit is an achene up to about 6 millimeters long; most of this length is made up by the long, soft pappus.
