About Anemone cylindrica A.Gray
Anemone cylindrica A.Gray, commonly called thimbleweed, is an upright, clump-forming herbaceous flowering plant that belongs to the buttercup family Ranunculaceae. Mature plants reach heights between 30 and 100 centimetres, which is 12 to 39 inches. They begin flowering in early summer, and often continue blooming into late summer. Their blooms are greenish-white. This species is primarily self-pollinated. After flowering, it produces fruits arranged in dense, rounded columned spikes that are 20 to 35 millimetres long, which measures 0.79 to 1.38 inches. The fruits are known as achenes; when ripe, they carry gray-white, densely woolly styles that let the achenes disperse by wind. Anemone cylindrica is native to north central North America, where it grows in prairies, dry open woods, along roadsides, and in pastures. It is one of multiple plant species that share the common name thimbleweed.
