Anampses meleagrides, commonly called the spotted wrasse, is a species of wrasse first described by Valenciennes in 1840.
Geographic Range
This species is native to reef environments ranging from the Red Sea and East Africa in the Indian Ocean east to Samoa and the Tuamoto Islands in the western Pacific Ocean, and north to Japan.
Habitat and Depth Range
It inhabits saltwater coral reefs at depths between 3 and 60 meters (9.8 to 196.9 feet).
Size
The spotted wrasse can grow to a total length of 22 centimeters (8.7 inches).
Human Relevance
It has minor commercial importance to local fisheries, and it is also available in the aquarium trade.
