About Amydrium medium (Zoll. & Moritzi) Nicolson

Amydrium medium (Zoll. & Moritzi) Nicolson is an epiphytic or hemiepiphytic vining flowering plant in the arum (aroid) family, Araceae, native to Southeast Asia. In recent times, this species has become better known and more widely available on the plant market, largely due to propagation via tissue culture. Alongside the original type with standard green leaves, multiple cultivars have been developed. These include 'Silver', which has teal-blue, light-gray foliage, and 'Spiderman', which has web-like leaf patterning. There are also several variegated forms, such as 'Albo Variegata' with white-and-green marbled foliage, and 'Galaxy' and 'Mint' with lime-green and yellow swirled leaves. Despite being commercially available, the entire genus Amydrium remains relatively little known among plant hobbyists. It is overshadowed by other related popular aroid genera, including Epipremnum, Monstera, Philodendron, Scindapsus and Syngonium. Amydrium medium's native range extends from mainland Southeast Asia westward, including Cambodia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore and Thailand, and eastward through selected islands of Indonesia and the Philippines.
