About Aizoon canariense L.

Aizoon canariense L. is a low-growing plant that reaches up to 25 centimetres (10 inches) in height. Its branches spread along the ground, and it bears somewhat fleshy, hairy leaves with petioles. It produces small flowers that have 1โ€“3 millimetres (1โ„16โ€“1โ„8 inch) long sepals that are yellowish on the inside, and it has no petals. This species occurs in warm arid to semi-arid regions across Macaronesia (including Madeira, the Canary Islands, and Cape Verde), Arabia, Pakistan, North Africa, and Southern Africa. Bedouins in Egypt prepare a gruel from its ground seeds, and its leaves are eaten locally during periods of famine.
