About Acmispon cytisoides (Benth.) Brouillet

Acmispon cytisoides (Benth.) Brouillet has known synonyms: Lotus benthamii and Syrmatium cytisoides. This legume species is native and endemic to central California, occurring along the Central Coast and extending into the coastal mountain ranges. It grows in oceanside habitats, and also grows inland on slopes and in canyons.

This plant is a mat-forming or spreading perennial herb. Its stems are lined with leaves, each leaf composed of a few oval leaflets that reach up to 12 millimeters in length. The inflorescence holds up to 10 dull pinkish flowers with dark veins; each individual flower is just under 1 centimeter long. It is commonly called Bentham's broom or Bentham's deerweed.
