About Acmispon argophyllus (A.Gray) Brouillet
Acmispon argophyllus (A.Gray) Brouillet is a perennial herb that can grow prostrate or erect. It has a woody, tough base to its stem, and the upper plant parts are covered in a coat of silky silvery hairs. Each leaf is composed of pairs of hairy, oval leaflets that are around one centimeter long. The inflorescence is a cluster of many tubular yellow flowers, each about a centimeter long. The base of each flower is enclosed in a calyx of silky-hairy sepals. The fruit is a legume pod that generally contains just one seed. Research shows that the northern and southern island populations of this species are distinct, with very little gene flow or mixing between the populations. Research also suggests that Acmispon argophyllus is pollinated by generalist bees, but scientists do not know exactly how its seeds are dispersed.
