About Aciphylla horrida W.R.B.Oliv.

Aciphylla horrida W.R.B.Oliv. is a large perennial herb that reaches up to 1 meter (3 feet 3 inches) in height. Plants grow either as single clumps or in small groups. Their bright green leaves can grow up to around 80 centimeters (31 inches) long. The species has a stout flowering stem that grows to approximately 150 centimeters (59 inches) tall. Numerous small flowers form on this stem between November and January, and 4-millimeter (0.16-inch) fruits develop from December to February.

Aciphylla horrida is endemic to the South Island of New Zealand, where it occurs south of Mount Uriah. It prefers areas with higher rainfall, so it is most common on the western side of the Southern Alps. It grows in sub-alpine to low-alpine climates, and is often found in areas where snow tussock grows mixed with scrub and herbfield.
