About Aciphylla glaucescens W.R.B.Oliv.
Aciphylla glaucescens W.R.B.Oliv. is a perennial herb that grows as a large tussock, reaching up to 1.5 m (4 ft 11 in) in height. Its greyish-green, drooping leaves can grow up to 1.5 m (4 ft 11 in) long. This species may grow either as a single individual or in groups. It produces flowering stems that reach up to 2 m (6 ft 7 in) high; female plants produce denser flower clusters than male plants. It flowers from November to January, and fruits from December to February, with fruiting sometimes extending into June. This species is endemic to New Zealand, where it occurs on both the North Island and the South Island. It grows in temperate regions, with a range that extends from Mount Hikurangi in the North Island to the Dunsdale-Riverton area in the South Island. It inhabits areas from coastal to low-alpine elevations, including along streams, on banks, in depressions, in mixed tussock-scrub, and in grassland.
