About Acacia hubbardiana Pedley
Acacia hubbardiana, commonly known as yellow prickly Moses, is a spreading shrub. It has sharply pointed, hairless phyllodes that are 5โ10 mm long and 3โ8 mm wide. One edge of each phyllode is roughly straight, while the opposite edge is convex and partially positioned close to the branchlet. Flowers are produced in spherical heads that grow from leaf axils near the ends of branchlets, on stalks called peduncles that are 5โ12 mm long. These flower heads sometimes form in racemes up to 30 mm long, and each individual flower head holds between 15 and 20 creamy yellow flowers. The seed pods of this species are thinly leathery, shaped oblong to narrowly oblong. They grow up to 50 mm long and 10โ15 mm wide, and are raised over the seeds inside. The seeds themselves are roughly 4.5 mm long. This plant is distributed along the coast of southeastern Queensland, Australia, ranging from near Bundaberg in the north to Brisbane in the south. It grows on coastal plains, swamps, and lowlands, occurring in open woodland or heath in poorly drained sandy soils.
