About Zizina otis (Fabricius, 1787)

Zizina otis, commonly known as the lesser grass blue, is a species of blue butterfly that belongs to the Lycaenidae family. This species is found across south and southeast Asia. It was first officially described by Johan Christian Fabricius in 1787. The lesser grass blue is frequently misidentified as Zizina labradus, the common grass blue. In terms of distribution, Zizina otis occurs in south Asia. It was first reported from the Hawaiian island of Oahu in 2008. Two subspecies occupy different regions of New Zealand: Zizina otis labradus lives in the North Island of New Zealand and the northern section of the South Island, while Zizina otis oxleyi is found exclusively in the southern part of the South Island.
