About Zizia aptera (A.Gray) Fernald
Zizia aptera, formally (A.Gray) Fernald, has leaves that measure 2.5 to 10 centimetres (1 to 4 inches) long. The leaves are oval in shape, indented at the base, and have jagged edges. Upper leaves on the plant are divided into three segments. Compound clusters of yellow flowers, called umbels, bloom at the top of the stems from May through July. This species produces elliptical fruits. Zizia aptera is distributed across southern Canada and most of the continental United States. It does not grow in the Southwest, the southern Great Plains, or New England. It lives in wet habitats.
