About Zeltnera calycosa (Buckley) G.Mans.

Zeltnera calycosa (Buckley) G.Mans. is a species of flowering plant in the gentian family, commonly known as Arizona centaury. It is native to northern Mexico and the southwestern United States. In this region, it grows in moist spots located within otherwise dry habitats, for example along riverbanks. It is an erect biennial herb that can grow up to half a meter in height. Its widely lance-shaped leaves grow in a basal rosette and also along the plant's slender stem; individual leaves can reach up to 7 centimeters long. Its inflorescence is an open cluster of flowers borne on short pedicels. Each flower opens into five pointed lobes, each around one centimeter long and colored dark rose pink.
