About Zanclognatha pedipilalis Guenée, 1854
Zanclognatha pedipilalis, commonly known as the grayish zanclognatha, is a litter moth that belongs to the family Erebidae. This species was first formally described by Achille Guenée in 1854. It is distributed in eastern North America, ranging from Nova Scotia southward to Florida and Mississippi, and westward to Alberta and Kansas. The wingspan of this moth measures between 24 and 30 millimetres, which is equivalent to 0.94 to 1.18 inches. Adult grayish zanclognatha are active in flight from May to August each year. In the northern part of its range, this species produces one generation per year. Connecticut sees a partial second brood, while Missouri has two full broods annually, and Florida hosts multiple generations per year. The larvae of Zanclognatha pedipilalis feed on dead leaves found in deciduous woods.
