About Yucca madrensis Gentry

Yucca madrensis H. S. Gentry is a plant species belonging to the genus Yucca, which is part of the Asparagaceae plant family. It is native to the mountainous Sierra Madre Occidental region, located in the Mexican states of Sonora and Chihuahua. It has also been documented growing in Arizona. This species grows on steep, rocky slopes within pine-oak forests. Yucca madrensis produces indehiscent fruits and has serrate leaves, morphological traits that suggest a close relationship to Yucca rigida Trel. and Yucca schottii Engelm. It can be distinguished from both of these related species by several distinct characteristics: narrower leaves, a glabrous inflorescence, and a shorter overall growth stature.
