About Yucca capensis L.W.Lenz
Yucca capensis L.W.Lenz is a plant species that belongs to the family Asparagaceae. It is endemic to a small region of the Mexican state of Baja California Sur, and grows in the mountains of this region at elevations over 1000 meters. Its species epithet refers to its type locale, which is located near Cabo San Lucas at the southernmost point of the Baja California peninsula. The common name of this species is Cape Region yucca. The IUCN classifies Yucca capensis as an endangered species, because it has a very small native range and faces threats from habitat destruction. Genetic and morphological evidence suggests this species is more closely related to yuccas native to the Sierra Madre Occidental in Chihuahua and Sonora than to Yucca valida Brandegee, another yucca species found in other areas of Baja California Sur.
