About Yigoga signifera (Denis & Schiffermüller), 1775
Scientific name: Yigoga signifera (Denis & Schiffermüller), 1775. This moth has a wingspan of 34–40 mm. According to Warren’s 1914 description, under the synonym E. signifera F., the forewing is brownish grey with a reddish tinge. The costal area, and the median and submedian veins are speckled pale grey and black, while the veinlets are blackish. There is a black streak running from the base below the cell. Stigmata are similar to those of Dichagyris disturbans, but the reniform stigma is broader and not angled inwards. The marginal area shows more prominent dark streaking. The hindwing is whitish, with a fuscous (dark grey-brown) tinge towards the margin, which is more distinct in females. This species is widely distributed, occurring in the Alps of France and Switzerland, as well as in Germany, Austria, Hungary, Russia, and across Western Asia, including Armenia, Asia Minor, Syria, Persia, Turkestan, and Western Siberia. The aberration ab. improcera Stgr., currently treated as Dichagyris orientis (Alphéraky, 1882), is a duller insect that more closely resembles Dichagyris disturbans, with all of its markings obscured. Another form, Dichagyris orientis Alphéraky, is much paler, with a uniform, smooth ochreous grey coloration, and has prominent black basal streak and costal spots. Both of these forms are restricted to Western Asia.
