Yabea is a monotypic genus, meaning it contains only one species: Yabea microcarpa. This species goes by the common names California hedge parsley and false carrot. It looks similar to other wild carrots and their close relatives. Yabea microcarpa is native to western North America, where its distribution includes the western United States, British Columbia, and Baja California. It can grow in many different habitat types. In Baja California, this species occurs mostly in the northwestern region of the state, but its range extends into the Central Desert. It also grows on Guadalupe Island in the Pacific Ocean.
