Xyris difformis Chapm., commonly known as bog yelloweyed grass, is a North American flowering plant species that belongs to the yellow-eyed-grass family. Its native range covers the eastern and southern United States, eastern and central Canada, and Central America. This species is a perennial herb that grows up to 90 cm (3 feet) tall. It has grass-like leaves that can reach up to 50 cm (20 inches) in length, and it produces yellow flowers. Three recognized varieties of Xyris difformis exist. Xyris difformis var. curtissii (Malme) Kral is found in Belize and the coastal U.S. states stretching from Texas to Virginia. Xyris difformis var. difformis grows in Nova Scotia, Ontario, the U.S. coastal states from Maine to Texas, and inland U.S. areas including Michigan, Oklahoma, Indiana, and Arkansas. Xyris difformis var. floridana Kral occurs in Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua, and the U.S. coastal states from Louisiana to the Carolinas.
