Xyris brevifolia, commonly known as shortleaf yelloweyed grass, is a North American flowering plant species that belongs to the yellow-eyed-grass family. This species is native to Brazil, the West Indies, and the southeastern United States, specifically Florida, Alabama, Georgia, and the Carolinas. Xyris brevifolia is a perennial herb that grows up to 60 cm (2 feet) in height. It has narrow leaves that reach up to 15 cm (6 inches) long, and it produces yellow flowers. The species grows most commonly in river floodplains, coastal mesic flatwoods, and cypress depression swamps, and it can also be found in disturbed habitats.
