About Xylotrupes socrates Schaufuss, 1864

Like most dynastid beetles, adult male Xylotrupes socrates have two horns: one on the head and another on the pronotum. Both horns are bifurcate and curl inward. Adult females do not have these horns. Individuals of both sexes have exoskeletons and elytra that range in color from dark chestnut-brown (seen in younger beetles) to black (seen in older beetles). This species is widespread across multiple Southeast Asian countries, including Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, and Vietnam.
