About Xestia agathina Duponchel, 1827

Xestia agathina Duponchel, 1827 has a wingspan ranging from 28 to 36 mm. Its forewings are greyish rufous; the costal area is paler across two-thirds of its length, and is edged below at the base by a fine dark streak. The claviform stigma is small and obscure, while the cell is black brown. The two main stigmata are pale; the orbicular stigma is variable, sometimes large, and sometimes contracted into a white spot. The hindwing is dark grey. Male antennae are serrate, with sessile fascicles of cilia. Two distinct forms have been noted: the form hebridicola Stgr. found in the Hebrides has paler forewings that lack the original red tinge, while the form scopariae Mill found in France has the red tinge overpowered by black suffusion.
