About Xenospingus concolor (d'Orbigny & Lafresnaye, 1837)

The slender-billed finch, with the scientific name Xenospingus concolor, is a bird species that belongs to the tanager family Thraupidae. It is the only species classified in the genus Xenospingus. This species is found only in southwest Peru and northern Chile, and it lives mainly in riverine vegetation along coastal valleys. It is currently considered endangered because of habitat loss. The once-common riparian thickets it relies on are threatened by logging carried out by farm owners. Some evidence shows this bird has successfully adapted to these threats by using olive tree plantations and other artificial habitats.
