Xenodon dorbignyi (Bibron, 1854) can reach a total length of 56 cm (22 in), which includes an 8 cm (3.1 in) long tail. This species visually resembles Bothrops alternatus, a sympatric venomous snake. It is distributed across Argentina, southern Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Its preferred natural habitats are forest and grassland, both of which have sandy soil. Xenodon dorbignyi reproduces via oviparity.
