About Xanthosia huegelii (Benth.) Steud.
Xanthosia huegelii (Benth.) Steud. is a weak perennial plant that can be low-lying, erect, or ascending, growing as either a herb or subshrub. It typically reaches a maximum height of 15 cm (5.9 in), and its branches are covered in shaggy hairs. Its leaves are most often trifoliate, generally measuring 6โ15 mm (0.24โ0.59 in) long and 15โ30 mm (0.59โ1.18 in) wide, borne on a petiole 6โ30 mm (0.24โ1.18 in) long. Leaves are sometimes simple, and their leaf segments range in shape from linear to elliptic. Flowers are arranged in a simple umbel holding 3 to 6 flowers, growing on a peduncle up to 3 mm (0.12 in) long, with linear bracts 4โ7 mm (0.16โ0.28 in) long at the umbel base. Sepals measure about 2 mm (0.079 in) long, petals are white and grow up to 1.5 mm (0.059 in) long. Flowering occurs in most months of the year. The fruit is 2.5โ4 mm (0.098โ0.157 in) long and has 5 to 9 schizocarps. This species grows in near-coastal regions of Western Australia, South Australia, and Victoria. In Victoria, it grows mainly in heath and woodland. In south-western Western Australia, it inhabits winter-wet areas, sandplains, and outcrops across the Avon Wheatbelt, Esperance Plains, Geraldton Sandplains, Jarrah Forest, Mallee, Swan Coastal Plain, and Warren bioregions.
