About Wyethia angustifolia (DC.) Nutt.
Wyethia angustifolia (DC.) Nutt. is a species of flowering plant in the family Asteraceae, commonly known as California compassplant and narrowleaf mule's ears. It is native to the west coast of the United States, ranging from Washington to California, where it grows in grasslands, meadows, and other open habitats. This perennial herb grows from a tough taproot and caudex, and produces a stem 30 to 90 centimeters tall. Its leaves have lance-shaped blades that reach up to 50 centimeters in length. One or more large sunflower-like flower heads grow at the top of the hairy stem. Each flower head has narrow, hairy phyllaries at its base, and contains up to 21 yellow ray florets that each measure up to 4.5 centimeters long, plus many yellow disc florets. The fruit is an achene that can be nearly 2 centimeters long when including its pappus.
