About Williamsonia lintneri (Hagen, 1878)

Williamsonia lintneri, commonly called the adult ringed boghaunter, is a small emerald dragonfly with an overall gray-black coloration. It has gray eyes, and prominent yellow rings are present on each abdominal segment. Its wings are clear, with only a small patch of yellow at the base. Females of this species have a thicker abdomen than males. The ringed boghaunter can be easily told apart from its close relative the ebony boghaunter by these prominent yellow abdominal rings. This species has a restricted distribution range. Populations are currently known to occur in Wisconsin, Michigan, New England, New York, and New Jersey. It was previously considered endemic to the United States, but a population was discovered in Ontario in 2016.
