About Weberbauerocereus weberbaueri (Schum. ex Vaupel) Backeb.
Weberbauerocereus weberbaueri grows as a branching shrub, with shoots emerging from its base. Its numerous upright or ascending gray-green shoots grow up to 4 meters tall, with diameters between 6 and 10 cm (2.4 to 3.9 in). It has around 15 to 22 slightly humpbacked ribs. Its closely spaced areoles can reach up to 8 mm (0.31 in) in diameter, and are covered in long, grayish yellow wool. The species produces six to eight strong brownish central spines that grow up to 6 cm (2.4 in) long, plus approximately 20 thin yellowish-brown radial spines that measure 1 to 1.5 cm (0.39 to 0.59 in) long. Its tubular to somewhat funnel-shaped, slightly zygomorphic flowers grow near the tips of shoots. These flowers open at night and stay open until the following morning, reaching 5.2 to 10.3 cm (2.0 to 4.1 in) in length. The slightly curved greenish-brown flower tube is covered in short brown hairs, and the flower bracts range in color from white to reddish brown to pinkish red. The fruits range in color from green, yellow, and yellowish orange to orange-red, and grow up to 4 cm (1.6 in) in diameter. This species is widespread in the Arequipa department of Peru, where it grows at altitudes between 2000 and 3000 meters.
