About Voacanga thouarsii Roem. & Schult.
Voacanga thouarsii Roem. & Schult. grows as a small tree reaching up to 20 meters (70 feet) in height, with a trunk that can measure up to 80 centimeters (30 inches) in diameter. Its flowers are fragrant, with a corolla that is pale green, creamy, or white. The fruit is dark green and spotted, made up of paired follicles, each of which grows up to 10 centimeters (4 inches) long. This species is native to tropical and southern Africa, as well as Madagascar. It grows in forest and savanna habitats, at altitudes ranging from sea level up to 600 meters (2,000 feet). Locally, Voacanga thouarsii is used medicinally to treat wounds, sores, gonorrhoea, eczema, heart problems, hypertension, rheumatism, stomach-ache, and snakebite.
