Viola rostrata Pursh is a stemmed perennial plant. Its cauline leaves are simple, toothed, ovate, and acute. Its basal leaves are cordate, and measure 2–4 cm in size. This species produces flowers in the spring. The flowers are beardless, pale lilac with darker veins that form a darker central eye. The flower spur is at least as long as the petal blades.
