Viola reichei Skottsb. is a perennial herb that grows between 4 and 20 centimeters tall. The leaves of this species are green, and can be shaped like a circle, kidney, oval, or ellipse. Its flowers grow above the foliage; they are yellow, but the anterior petal bears reddish lines. This species is native to central and southern Chile, and has also been recorded in the southern Andes mountain range. It is frequently found in southern Argentina, in the provinces of Neuquén, Río Negro, Chubut, Santa Cruz, and Tierra del Fuego. Viola reichei occurs in temperate forests, where it grows in the shade of trees and other vegetation. It is also known to grow on steep slopes and south-facing mountainous areas. It can be found at elevations between 200 and 2000 meters.
