About Vincetoxicum hirundinaria Medik.
Vincetoxicum hirundinaria Medik. typically grows between 30 and 70 centimetres (12 to 28 inches) tall. It has an erect, stout, glabrous stem. Its flowers are arranged in whorls that form a raceme, with an approximate diameter of 1 centimeter (0.39 inches). The corolla has five white petals, while the calyx is made up of five fused, sharp-pointed sepals. The leaves are opposite, ovate to lanceolate in shape, and short-stalked. Mature fruits reach about 5 centimeters in length, and hold many seeds each bearing a tuft of white hairs. This plant flowers from June through the end of July. It is native to cliffs and slopes, particularly those with calcareous soils, across continental Eurasia, including some Baltic islands. Introduced populations exist in North America, specifically in Ontario, Michigan, and New York. The species does not grow naturally or occur in Great Britain or Ireland.
