About Viburnum recognitum Fernald

Viburnum recognitum Fernald, commonly called northern arrowwood, southern arrowwood, and smooth arrow-wood, is a species of flowering plant belonging to the family Viburnaceae. It is native to eastern Canada, and the central and eastern United States. This plant grows as a shrub or a small shrubby tree, and individuals are typically found in wetter habitats including stream banks, bottomlands, swamps, and mesic woodlands. It is closely related to Viburnum dentatum, which is known as southern arrowwood or roughish arrowwood, and it may actually be a subtaxon of that species. According to NatureServe, this plant is classified as critically imperiled in Missouri and Arkansas, and imperiled in the Canadian province of Quebec, while its global conservation status is "apparently secure".
