About Viburnum farreri Stearn
Viburnum farreri, which has the scientific synonym Viburnum fragrans, is a flowering plant species in the family Adoxaceae. This family was formerly classified as part of Caprifoliaceae, and the species is native to northern China. It is an erect deciduous shrub that grows to 3 meters (10 feet) tall and 2.5 meters (8 feet) broad. It produces sweetly scented pink-tinged white flowers in late autumn and early spring. Its young leaves are bronze-colored, maturing to dark green, and turning brilliant red-purple shades in autumn. Viburnum farreri grows best in moist but well-drained soil, in locations with full sun or partial shade. The Latin specific epithet farreri honors Reginald Farrer, an English plant collector. This plant has been awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
