Vespa ducalis Smith, 1852. Worker individuals of this species have a body length ranging from 24 to 32 mm, while the queen has an approximate body length of 37 mm. This hornet species has a distinctive black tail. It is only slightly smaller than the Asian giant hornet, Vespa mandarinia, which has a body length of roughly 30 to 55 mm. This species is distributed across Asia, with confirmed occurrences in mainland China, Hong Kong, northeast India, Japan, the Korean Peninsula, Myanmar, Nepal, Russian Siberia, Taiwan, northern and central Thailand, and northern and central Vietnam.
