About Vernonia lettermannii Engelm. ex A.Gray

Vernonia lettermannii, commonly called narrowleaf ironweed, is a plant species that has only been recorded in Arkansas and Oklahoma. It grows on floodplains and terraces at elevations ranging from 100 to 200 meters (330 to 660 feet). This species is a perennial herb that can reach up to 60 centimeters (24 inches) in height. Its leaves are thread-shaped (called filiform), growing up to 9 centimeters (3.5 inches) long, and measuring less than 3 millimeters (0.12 inches) wide. It produces purple flower heads arranged in the form of a corymb.
