About Vernia verna

Vernia verna, commonly known as the little glassywing, is a butterfly species that belongs to the family Hesperiidae. This species can be found in the eastern United States and southeastern Canada. Its range extends from central New England west to central Nebraska, and south to northern Florida, the Gulf Coast and southern Texas. The wingspan of adult little glassywings measures between 27 and 39 mm. Adult butterflies prefer to feed on nectar from white, pink, and purple flowers, including plants from the genera Apocynum, Prunella, Eutrochium, Asclepias, as well as Mentha × piperita. The larval caterpillars of this species feed exclusively on Tridens flavus.
