About Verbesina chapmanii J.R.Coleman
Verbesina chapmanii J.R.Coleman is a perennial dicot that typically grows to a height of 50 to 80 cm (20 to 31 in). Most of its leaves are arranged oppositely. Its leaf blades are elliptic, measuring 3 to 10 cm long by 0.8 to 3 cm wide, with cuneate leaf bases. Each individual plant produces 1 to 3 flower heads. The involucres range in shape from hemispherical to turbinate, with a diameter of 8 to 16 mm (0.80 to 1.60 cm). This species has no ray florets, and bears 40 to 80 yellow corolla disc florets. Its elliptic cypselae are purplish black and 5 to 7 mm long, while its pappi reach a maximum length of 0.3 mm. Flowering occurs from June to August. This plant is endemic to the Florida Panhandle. It grows in pine barrens, bogs, and flatwoods, at elevations 10 to 30 meters above sea level.
