About Verbena stricta Vent.

Verbena stricta Vent. grows to 2–4 feet (0.6–1.2 m) tall when grown in ideal conditions. Its blooming period lasts six weeks, occurring from June to September. This species is native to the contiguous United States, the Canadian province of Quebec, and the Canadian province of Ontario. It is drought-resistant, and prefers dry, well-drained soils and full, ample sunlight. It occurs most commonly in low fields, meadows, and prairies, as well as along roadsides and in other types of disturbed habitats. In cultivation, V. stricta is valued as an ornamental plant for its showy inflorescences and low maintenance requirements, though it may also be classified as a weed. Some sources claim that V. stricta may have medicinal benefits, but these claims have no supporting scientific evidence. It acquired the common folk name "feverweed" because it was historically used to treat fever in the 1800s.
