About Vancouveria hexandra (Hook.) C.Mooren & Decne.
Vancouveria hexandra (Hook.) C.Mooren & Decne. grows in patches, reaching up to 50 centimetres (20 in) in height. Its leaves grow up to 40 cm (16 in) long and have two or three lobes. The plant produces small flowers that have six short white petals and six petal-like sepals that bend backwards — this shape, which resembles turning inside out, gives the species its common name. A pistil and six stamens converge to a point at the center of the flower. It is distributed in southwestern British Columbia, western Washington and Oregon, and northwestern California. It is a common understory herb that grows in moist, shady Douglas-fir forests.
