About Valeriana californica A.Heller

Valeriana californica A.Heller is a species of flowering plant in the honeysuckle family, commonly known as California valerian. It is native to Oregon, northeastern California, and Nevada, where it grows in moist, forested mountain habitats. This plant is an erect herb that reaches up to half a meter in height. It produces deeply lobed leaves arranged in whorls or opposite pairs at intervals along its stem. The flowering structure, called an inflorescence, is a cyme made up of many funnel-shaped flowers. Each flower is white or pink-tinged, about half a centimeter long, and has three long, protruding stamens. The fruit is a ribbed achene that is also around half a centimeter long, and it may be tipped by the feather-like remains of the flower's sepals.
