About Utricularia multifida R.Br.

Utricularia multifida, commonly known as pink petticoat or fairy aprons, is a terrestrial carnivorous plant. It is classified in the bladderwort genus Utricularia of the family Lentibulariaceae. This species is endemic to the southwest corner of Western Australia. It was formerly classified in a separate genus under the name Polypompholyx multifida. An unusual trait of U. multifida is that a tiny individual plant, only 12 mm (0.47 in) wide, produces a 10–12 cm (3.9–4.7 in) tall peduncle that bears 2 or 3 flowers, each of which is twice the size of the entire plant that produced them. Insect traps located on the plant's underground rhizomes capture collembola, mites, and other soil-dwelling fauna.
