About Urbanus tanna Evans, 1952

Spicauda tanna, commonly known as the Tanna longtail, is a butterfly species belonging to the family Hesperiidae. Its scientific name is also referenced as Urbanus tanna Evans, 1952. This species is distributed from Ecuador and French Guiana, northward through Central America to Mexico. Rare stray individuals can be found as far north as the lower Rio Grande Valley in Texas, United States. The wingspan of adult Tanna longtails ranges from 33 to 38 mm. In Mexico, adults are active in flight from June through December, while adults have only been recorded in flight during June in southern Texas. The host plant for this species' larvae is currently unknown. It is thought that adult Tanna longtails feed on flower nectar.
