About Tyrannus melancholicus Vieillot, 1819

Adult tropical kingbirds (Tyrannus melancholicus Vieillot, 1819) measure 22 cm (8.7 in) in length, weigh 39 g (1.4 oz), and have a wingspan between 38 and 41 cm. Their heads are pale gray, marked with a darker eye mask, an orange crown stripe, and a thick gray bill. The back is grayish-green, while the wings and forked tail are brown. The throat is pale gray, fading to olive on the breast, and the remaining underparts are yellow. Male and female tropical kingbirds have similar plumage, though young birds have pale buff edges on their wing coverts.
