Its wing length ranges from 117 to 131 mm, its culmen length ranges from 20 to 24 mm, and its tarsus length ranges from 30.0 to 34.5 mm. This species can reach a body mass of at least 86 g. Compared to the olive thrush, Turdus smithi has a longer, fully yellow bill, longer wings, and greyer flanks. This bird is found in South Africa, where it occurs in Little Namaqualand, the Karoo, Northern Cape, Free State, Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and parts of the North West Province.
