About Tulipa greigii Regel

Tulipa greigii Regel typically grows 20–30 cm (8–12 in) tall. This tulip produces single, bowl-shaped large flowers that can reach up to 102 mm (4 in) wide, and blooms from early to mid-spring. Flower color ranges are more limited than those of other tulips, with shades spanning red, yellow, and white. Its leaves are characteristically variegated green with purple-maroon markings, and many individuals also have spotted or striped foliage. Cultivars of Tulipa greigii that have earned the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit include 'Oratorio', 'Plaisir', 'Red Riding Hood', 'Toronto', and 'United States'. This species was featured on a Soviet postage stamp in 1960.
